Descrizione
Zamioculcas zamiifolia, widely known as the ZZ plant or eternity plant, is one of the most reliable and elegant indoor plants, valued for both its appearance and its exceptional resilience. Native to eastern Africa, it has evolved to cope with dry periods and low light, making it particularly well suited to modern indoor environments.
This plant is grown mainly for its glossy, dark green foliage. The leaves are thick, smooth and naturally shiny, growing along upright, fleshy stems that give the plant a strong, architectural look. Zamioculcas is evergreen, so it retains its attractive foliage throughout the year. Flowering indoors is uncommon, but when it happens the plant produces a small, subtle cream to pale green flower near the base, usually during the warmer months. The flowers are not showy and have no fragrance.
When mature, Zamioculcas can reach a height of around 70–90 cm, with a slow and steady growth rate. It has no spines and is not scented, which makes it ideal for homes, offices and public spaces where low maintenance is essential.
Care is very simple. The ZZ plant prefers low to medium light but adapts well to brighter indirect light. Watering should be moderate and infrequent, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings, as the plant stores water in its underground rhizomes. A well-draining soil is important, and light feeding during spring and summer is more than sufficient. Overall, it is a forgiving plant that tolerates occasional neglect without losing its decorative value.
Note: Zamioculcas zamiifolia is toxic if ingested, so it should be kept out of reach of pets and small children.
