Description
Wisteria sinensis ‘Caroline’ is a stunning and vigorous climbing plant, supplied as two plants in 15 cm pots with a height of approximately 65 cm. Also simply known as Chinese Wisteria, this variety is cherished for its long, cascading clusters of dark blue-purple flowers, which bloom spectacularly in May and June. There may also be a lighter after-flowering in September, extending its ornamental appeal.
This fast-growing climber can reach up to 10 metres in height when mature, making it ideal for covering pergolas, fences, or trellises. To ensure the plant grows in the best possible shape, it is important to provide a solid support for the branches to attach themselves as they climb toward the sun. While the wisteria is naturally vigorous, guiding the young shoots along a trellis or fence helps create a neat and structured growth habit.
Regular pruning is essential for healthy growth and abundant flowering. It is recommended to prune twice a year: once during early spring to stimulate new growth and again after flowering to maintain shape and encourage future blooms.
The lush green foliage adds elegance even outside the flowering season, and this deciduous climber is hardy once established. Wisteria sinensis ‘Caroline’ is low-maintenance yet provides a spectacular floral display, making it a true focal point in any garden or outdoor space.
Note: Wisteria plants are mildly toxic if ingested, so care should be taken around children and pets.
With its dramatic dark blue-purple flower clusters, vigorous growth, and graceful climbing habit, Wisteria sinensis ‘Caroline’ brings timeless beauty and charm to pergolas, walls, and large garden features.
