The Rubus fruticosus ‘Black Satin’ is a vigorous, thornless blackberry shrub, prized for its long harvest season and large, juicy, sweet fruits. As a Tasty Green, 100% organically grown plant, it is cultivated using only natural plant and animal materials, and comes in a pot and label made from recycled plastic, offering a sustainable choice for environmentally conscious gardeners. The lack of thorns makes it especially suitable for a child-friendly garden, without compromising the rich flavour and quality of the berries.

The shrub develops dark green, oval, serrated leaves that create a lush backdrop for its abundant fruit. The blackberries start off green, turn red, and eventually develop a beautiful, glossy dark purple-black when fully ripe. Packed with minerals and sweetness, they are perfect for fresh eating, desserts, preserves, or juicing. The long fruiting period ensures that gardeners can enjoy multiple harvests throughout the summer and early autumn.

‘Black Satin’ is a deciduous plant that can be trained along a trellis, pergola, or fence, and with support, it can grow vigorously over several metres. Regular watering during dry spells and pruning after the fruiting season will help maintain its shape and encourage strong growth and bountiful yields for years to come.

Note: Only the berries are edible; other parts of the plant are not considered safe to eat.
