Description
Mini Monstera or Monstera Ginny, though its correct botanical name is Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, is often incorrectly marketed as Monstera minima. Its nickname, Hole Plant, comes from its uniquely perforated leaves.
This order includes two plants, allowing you to double up on its lush, tropical charm.
🌿 The Mini Monstera's Elegant Form
The most striking feature of this plant is its vibrant, bright green foliage. The leaves are beautifully lobed and deeply notched, creating a highly distinctive, almost skeletonized pattern that gives the plant an elegant, tropical look, yet remains manageable in size. This distinctive leaf shape is what makes the plant stand out. It is a tropical evergreen, maintaining its bold look all year.
-
Height: While the current size is compact at 25cm, this is a vigorous and fast-growing climbing vine. Given a support like a moss pole, it can quickly reach lengths of 5 to 8 feet (1.5 to 2.5 meters) or more indoors. Without support, it will gracefully trail.
-
Flowering and Fragrance: The Mini Monstera is grown entirely for its foliage and rarely, if ever, flowers indoors.
☀️ Care and Placement
The Mini Monstera is native to Southern Thailand and Malaysia and is celebrated for its relatively easy care requirements.
-
Light/Placement: The plant thrives in indirect sunlight but can also tolerate partial shade. Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for indoor settings, such as living rooms or bedrooms. Bright, indirect light is best for encouraging fast growth and deep leaf cuts.
-
Watering: It has moderate water needs. You should water the plant when the top layer of soil feels dry, which is typically about once a week. It is essential to avoid letting it sit in overly wet soil to prevent root rot.
Note: The Mini Monstera (Rhaphidophora tetrasperma), like many plants in the Arum family, contains calcium oxalate crystals. This means it is considered toxic if ingested by pets and humans, and can cause oral irritation, pain, and swelling. It should be kept out of reach.
