Zamioculcas zamiifolia, commonly known as the ZZ plant or eternity plant, is a striking and exceptionally robust indoor plant, prized for its sculptural form and glossy foliage. Originating from eastern Africa, it has adapted to environments with limited water and filtered light, which makes it perfectly suited to indoor living.

This plant is mainly appreciated for its lush, dark green leaves, which are thick, smooth and naturally shiny, growing along upright, fleshy stems. The foliage is evergreen, ensuring year-round visual interest. Flowering indoors is rare, but when it occurs it takes the form of a small, discreet cream to pale green flower at the base of the plant, typically during the warmer months. The flowers are not fragrant and are mostly of botanical interest rather than decorative value.

At maturity, Zamioculcas can reach a height of around 80–100 cm, growing slowly but steadily over time. It has no spines and does not produce any noticeable scent, making it an excellent choice for homes, offices and contemporary interiors.

Zamioculcas is renowned for its easy care. It performs well in low to medium light and also tolerates brighter indirect light. Thanks to its water-storing rhizomes, it requires infrequent watering; the soil should be allowed to dry out between waterings to avoid root rot. A well-draining potting mix is essential, and light fertilisation during spring and summer is sufficient. Overall, it is a low-maintenance plant that remains attractive even with minimal attention.

Note: Zamioculcas zamiifolia is toxic if ingested, so it should be kept out of reach of pets and small children.
