The Ribes rubrum ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ is a vigorous and fruitful red currant shrub, prized for its abundant yields and early ripening. As a Tasty Green, 100% organically grown plant, it has been cultivated using only natural plant and animal materials, and comes in a pot and label made from recycled plastic — a sustainable choice for environmentally conscious gardeners. This variety is known for producing long clusters of bright red berries that are ready to harvest around the end of June. The fruits have a pleasantly tart but refreshing flavour, ideal for fresh eating, baking into flans, or making homemade jams and preserves.

In spring, the shrub is adorned with small green-white flowers that add a subtle ornamental charm while attracting pollinators. The deciduous foliage forms a lush green backdrop through the growing season, enhancing the garden even before the berries appear. The shrub grows vigorously, reaching a manageable height of around 45cm in the pot when young, but can develop larger in the garden, making it suitable for borders, containers, or dedicated fruit beds. Regular watering, especially during dry periods, and occasional pruning to remove older stems will help maintain its shape and encourage strong fruiting for years to come.

Note: Only the berries are edible; other parts of the plant are not considered safe to eat.
