The Alocasia zebrina is a showstopper, cherished for its unique appearance that gives it its common name.
This plant is an evergreen perennial, providing year-round elegance. Its leaves are large, heart-shaped, and a deep green colour. The plant's most notable feature is its stems (petioles), which are slender and a pale green or yellow, dramatically adorned with a distinctive zebra pattern of blackish-brown stripes. This unique combination of large, dark leaves and striped, sturdy stems creates an elegant appearance and structure.
Your Alocasia zebrina is already tall at 75cm. It maintains an upright, tropical look and can easily reach 90cm to 1.5 metres (3 to 5 feet) indoors.
The Alocasia zebrina is grown solely for its stunning foliage and stems. Flowering is rare indoors. If a subtle bloom appears, it will be the typical aroid structure—a small, pale spathe and spadix—which is inconspicuous and not notably fragrant.
The Alocasia lauterbachiana offers a beautiful contrast to the zebrina with its vertical, architectural leaves.
This is also an evergreen plant. Its leaves are long, narrow, and upright, featuring beautifully wavy, undulating margins and a rich, dark green colour. The dramatic verticality and unique leaf shape are why it is known as the Purple Sword Alocasia. The undersides of the leaves often display a striking, contrasting reddish-purple hue, adding depth to the plant.
Matching the zebrina at 75cm, this plant will also grow tall, typically reaching 90cm to 1.5 metres (3 to 5 feet) or more at maturity.
Like its companion, the lauterbachiana is grown for its leaves. Flowering is infrequent and inconspicuous indoors, consisting of a subtle, pale spathe and spadix, and is not notably fragrant.

Location: Both thrive best in a bright spot with indirect sunlight. They can also do well in partial shade indoors. You must avoid direct sunlight as it may damage the leaves of both plants.
Watering Needs: Both require regular watering to keep the soil evenly moist. You should allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings, but strictly avoid letting the soil dry out completely. Consistency is key to their health.
Toxicity Note: Like all Alocasia species, both the zebrina and the lauterbachiana are toxic if ingested. They contain calcium oxalate crystals which can cause painful irritation. Please keep this duo out of reach of pets and children.
