You are welcoming two impressive Alocasia wentii plants into your home. Each one, standing at a magnificent 85cm tall in its 19cm pot, is a mature specimen that promises a lush, tropical, and dramatic presence.

🌿 Foliage, Form, and Appearance

This plant is an evergreen perennial, ensuring continuous, year-round beauty. The Alocasia wentii is a true Elephant Ear due to its large, sturdy, heart-shaped leaves. The foliage is highly attractive and unique: the top of the leaves displays a rich, glossy green, while the underside reveals a surprising and beautiful purplish hue. The leaves have striking veins, which contribute to the plant's robust and unique look, adding a touch of sophistication to your interior space. The plant maintains a tall, upright, and full structure. It does not have any spines.

📏 Size and Growth

At 85cm, these two plants are already commanding attention. The Alocasia wentii is known for its size and can easily grow to heights of 1.2 to 1.5 metres (4 to 5 feet) or more indoors when thriving, making them spectacular statement plants that bring height and volume to a room.

🌸 Flowering and Fragrance

The Alocasia wentii is valued entirely for its magnificent leaves. Consequently, flowering is an infrequent and generally uninteresting event when the plant is kept indoors. If a bloom does appear, it will take the form of the subtle, typical aroid structure: a pale green or cream-coloured spathe (the hood) surrounding a central spadix (the spike). These blooms are inconspicuous and are not notably fragrant.

💧 Care and Environment

Caring for this large tropical duo requires consistent attention to light and water needs.

  • Placement: The plants thrive best in a bright spot, but you must avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the glossy leaves. They can also survive in a partially shaded area, though bright indirect light is necessary to maintain their vigour and the rich colour of the leaves.

  • Water Needs: The Alocasia Wentii enjoys moist soil, but you must be careful not to overwater. The best way to gauge this is to water the plant when the top layer of soil feels dry. This ensures the soil stays consistently moist but prevents the waterlogging that can lead to root rot.

  • Humidity: As a tropical plant, it will benefit greatly from high humidity to keep those large leaves in pristine condition.

Note: The Alocasia Wentii, like all other Alocasia plants, is toxic if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause painful irritation to the mouth and digestive system. Please ensure both plants are kept out of reach of pets and small children.
